Creating a USB/Ethernet interface (for USB sticks /modems)
USB/Ethernet interfaces are created and used in remote connections through a modem directly connected to the firewall (USB port).
A USB/Ethernet interface is automatically created whenever a HUAWEI 4G USB modem that supports the HiLink feature is connected to the firewall and then configured.
If this is not the case, a modem profile must be configured in order to create a USB/Ethernet interface associated with the USB stick/modem. You can define two modem profiles on the firewall but only one USB/Ethernet interface can be added to the firewall.
Creating a modem profile
- Click on the Editmenu.
- Click on Modem profiles and select one of the modem profiles (named Modem 1 and Modem 2 by default).
The control panel of the modem profile appears.

General Settings
Name | Enter a name for the modem profile. |
Model | Enter the model of the modem for which the profile is being created (open text field). |
Vendor ID | ID specific to each modem vendor (hexadecimal string). |
Initial product ID | Product ID after it has been recognized as a USB storage device. This parameter is specific to each modem model. |
Target product ID | ID representing the product when it is in modem mode. This parameter is specific to each modem model. |
MessageContent for modem mode | This is a character string that allows the firewall to detect the USB device connected as a modem. |
Advanced configuration
Configuration command port | This is the number of the dedicated serial port for sending configuration commands ("AT" commands) to the modem. The most common value is 0. |
Monitoring command port | This is the number of the dedicated serial port for sending monitoring commands ("AT" commands) to the modem. The most common value is 1. |
Initialization string no. 1 | This string is optional and allows sending "AT" configuration commands to the modem before it is used. Example: "ATZ" (command to reinitialize the modem), "AT^CURC=0" (command which allows periodic messages to be disabled). |
Initialization string no. 2 | This string is optional and allows sending "AT" configuration commands to the modem before it is used. Example: "ATZ" (command to reinitialize the modem), "AT^CURC=0" (command which allows periodic messages to be disabled). |
Initialization string no. 3 | This string is optional and allows sending "AT" configuration commands to the modem before it is used. Example: "ATZ" (command to reinitialize the modem), "AT^CURC=0" (command which allows periodic messages to be disabled). |
