Administering Stormshield Network Security

Stormshield Network Security virtual firewalls can be administered via the web administration interface. If you are managing a large number of firewalls, use Stormshield Management Center instead, or the NSRPC API.
If you need to modify the virtual machine's system settings, use your hypervisor.

Looking up the virtual firewall's dashboard in the web administration interface

  1. Log on to the virtual firewall's web administration interface (https://firewall_IP_address/admin). If you have configured your network settings in DHCP, open the virtual firewall's console in order to retrieve its IP address.
  2. Authenticate using the administrator account and the associated password.
    The header of the web interface will show you that you have logged on to a Pay As You Go (VPAYG) firewall. It will also show the model applied for monthly billing: EVA1, EVA2, etc., which depends on the resources on the virtual machine.
  3. On the dashboard, the Properties widget displays general information about Stormshield Network Security.

The table below shows the technical requirements of each EVA model:

Model

Module

Value

EVA1

RAM

HDD

vCPU

max = 2 GB

10 GB (2 GB swap)

max = 1

EVA2

RAM

HDD

vCPU

max = 3 GB

10 GB (2 GB swap)

max = 2

EVA3

max = 6 GB

10 GB (2 GB swap)

EVA4

10 GB (2 GB swap)

An EVA must have at least 1 GB of memory.

Increasing the amount of memory on the virtual firewall

You can increase the amount of memory on Stormshield Network Security. This would allow you to change virtual firewall models and therefore operate more processors in order to manage more users. Do note that increasing memory will modify pricing conditions. For further information, please contact your Stormshield sales representative.

IMPORTANT
You are advised against reducing memory size. However, if you need to do so, ensure that the new limits to be applied to the virtual firewall are compatible with the current configuration.

  1. In the web administration interface, go to the Configuration > System > Maintenance > Configuration tab and click on Shut down the firewall.
  2. Wait until the virtual firewall shuts down.
  3. In your hypervisor, go to the virtual machine's properties and increase the memory, e.g., from 1024 MB to 3072 MB. You may also add processors if you need them.
  4. Restart the virtual machine.
  5. Log back on to the virtual firewall's web administration interface (https://firewall_IP_address/admin).
    On the dashboard, the Properties widget displays the new virtual firewall model (e.g., EVA2 for 3 GB of memory) as well as the new limits of this model. For further information on each model's limits, refer to the section Looking up the virtual firewall's dashboard in the web administration interface.
