SDS for C&M 2.5 new features

SDMC server

Hosted service mode (SaaS)

In addition to the SDMC server that can be installed as a virtual machine in your infrastructure, SDS for C&M now provides a server in hosted service mode (SaaS). The page https://sds.stormshieldcs.eu allows you to request the creation of your administration accountSDS for C&M. Once your account has been created, you will be able to perform all types of administration and configuration tasks on your server (e.g., policy configuration, user management, etc.).

Two variations of SaaS mode are available.

  • SaaS mode with external key management (external PKI)
This mode makes it possible to centrally manage the SDS for C&M solution while benefiting from the same features that would have been available if you had installed the solution in your infrastructure. You will also enjoy the same ease of implementation and continuous development of features.
User keys are managed by your organization's own PKI.
  • SaaS mode with built-in key management (Beta version)
SDMC contains a local directory that allows users to collaborate seamlessly without the need to deploy either the LDAP server or the PKI. Stormshield currently offers this new feature only in Beta test mode. It must not be deployed in a production environment, as it is only meant for evaluation. You may use this feature once you accept its conditions of use.

If you are installing the server as a virtual machine in your infrastructure, the built-in key management feature will not be available.

Viewing the server's operating mode

In hosted service mode, a Settings menu allows you to identify the server's operating mode (i.e., external PKI or built-in key management). It also shows complementary information entered during the creation of your account.

Download page

You can now download installation files for SDS for C&M clients from the Downloads menu in the server's administration interface.

Support for Oodrive PostFiles

Automatic protection can now be enabled for the synchronization application Oodrive PostFiles.

Documentation

Two guides are available in PDF for SDS for C&M:

  • The Installation and maintenance guide which explains how to install the SDMC server in your infrastructure and perform various maintenance operations. If you are using SDS for C&M in SaaS mode, you will not need this guide.
  • The Administration guide, which shows how to manage and configure the SDS for C&M solution.

Client

Server connection URL

The client is configured by default to log on to the server in hosted service mode. If you have installed the server in your infrastructure, you need to indicate the server's URL to clients. For more information, refer to the SDS for C&M Administration guide.

Automatic folder protection

Users can enable automatic protection for the contents of local or synchronized folders and define the users allowed to view the protected contents. All files contained in such folders are therefore automatically encrypted for authorized users. Users affected by this protection may still individually modify the protection on each file in the folder.

If you have defined global automatic protection on a synchronized folder, users may also individually modify the protection on each sub-folder and file.

Collaboration suggestion

During a protection and sharing operation in a shared space such as Dropbox or OneDrive, SDS for C&M automatically suggests sharing with all users who have access to the space. This list can then be modified by adding or deleting users.

Whenever authorized users are added, SDS for C&M will automatically generate a public link so that such users can access files shared in the shared space.

Account creation

In hosted service mode, users must indicate their business email addresses in order to open their SDS for C&M accounts. This is especially important as this will be the domain name that will allow associating a user with the domain that the solution's administrator has declared.

Querying directories with built-in key management

In built-in key management mode, SDS for C&M will search for the list of users by looking up the SDMC directory first, then the LDAP directory, if one has been configured.

Display of SDS Enterprise menus

In Windows, if you are using SDS for C&M with SDS Enterprise, the pop-up menu in the explorer will now show two separate entries for both products. Both of these menus can be merged by selecting a checkbox in the Settings window that you access from the SDS for C&M icon in the task bar.

Mobile applications

Customization of the mobile policy

If you have installed the SDMC server on a virtual machine, you can customize the server's URL using the standard Appconfig parameter or via an EMM system (e.g., MobileIron).

Distribution of the mobile policy via an EMM system

The following configuration items can now be distributed via an EMM system compatible with AppConfig or Android for Work:

  • URL of the SDMC server's administration interface.
  • Identifier of the mobile policy that you wish to apply to the organization's mobile devices.

Only on iOS and the MobileIron EMM system, it is now possible to configure each user’s private key if you use a PKI compatible with the MobileIron EMM system.
